Ladies’ Football Sessions – Come and join us for some FREE (not too strenuous) fitness and fun!

If you’re at an age where running up and down the stairs, a few times, makes you reach for the oxygen and dance classes are not quite your cup of tea, then look no further than joining us on a Thursday evening, in the ball court, opposite the Redz Bar at the Stadium, between 6.15pm – 7.15pm.

It all started a while ago when I thought it would be a good idea to play a bit of football for fun.  I asked the Crawley Town Community team, who were running female sessions on a Monday, what the age limit was to join in.  Unfortunately, the upper age limit was 25 so I was nearly double the age allowed for that session!  My first thought was “that’s not fair!” Not to be perturbed, the offer from the Community team to maybe see if I could get some ladies together to start our own session was too good an opportunity to miss.  I’m not particularly good at football but absolutely loved the idea of the chance to get some coaching, have some fun and most importantly get some exercise too.  I spoke to Amy Fazackerley from the Community Team and between us we set up a “Ladies” group with the emphasis on having fun and getting some exercise at the same time.   My own thoughts were there are plenty of ladies around my age who I’m sure would be interested and then began to think, there is a definite gap in the market for us “veterans”, let’s get this up and running!   Amy really bought into the idea too and spoke to the Football League’s FFD (Female Football Development) team.  The funding was organised and the 16th April was set up as the first session.

On a lovely, sunny evening 10 ladies turned up to be coached by Claire Burrage who has 20 years’ experience in womens’ football. The evening was spent laughing, learning and of course, started with a good warm up for those older legs!

Ladies Football 9

I can honestly say, everyone came away from the session having had a great time and really enjoyed it. Ladies who have never even kicked a ball before thoroughly enjoyed it and the post session feedback was brilliant.  We now have at least another 6 ladies interested in joining us for the 2nd week on the 23rd April.  If you fancy joining us too, you can tweet us at @ctsalliance or @crawleytowncf or email chair@ctfcsa.co.uk or amyfazackerley@crawleytownfc.com . Alternatively, you can ring Amy on 01293 410000.

Bring on the second week!
