STATEMENT ON TRAVEL INSURANCE – JANUARY 2016.
Members will be aware that in recent years the CTSA has subscribed to a travel insurance policy arranged through the FSF with ACE Europe Insurance. This has covered us for the cost of any league game being postponed within 48 hours of the match kick off, or abandoned after kick off and subsequently replayed. We have claimed on this policy three times in four years, most recently for the Brentford postponement in February 2014. Cup games have not been covered under the policy for the last two years.
We have been advised by the FSF that as a result of changes to legislation, the ACE policy will be discontinued with effect from January 1st 2016. At this stage we have not been able to identify an alternative supplier.
The CTSA board have reviewed the position and decided as follows:
1. The existing policy costs us 4% of the ticket price of travel. Over 4 years we have paid out £3,920 in premiums and made £2,835 of claims, so insurance is a net cost to us.
2. We therefore plan to ‘self-insure’ going forward. As a result CTSA will guarantee that travellers will be refunded where any league games are postponed/abandoned as outlined above. Alternatively bookings may be transferred to the new date, assuming a coach still runs.
3. CTSA will maintain a reserve in its accounts to cover the potential risk.
As a result the position of any customers using CTSA travel will not change from the current arrangements.
